Biography of Dino Melaye
Deno Melaye was born in Kano state but an indigene of Kogi State. He had occupied various leadership roles during his young age.
He was the head boy both in his primary and secondary days, a student union leader at the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria where he studied Geography before heading the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) as its president. After that he became the Secretary General of African Youth Council and then that of the Common Wealth Youth Council.
He won the African youth of the year award among many other citizens of 54 competing Commonwealth countries in 2005 after which he was appointed by President Olusegun Obasanjo to chair the Presidential Advisory Council on Youths.
Dino Melaye’s Political Career
Dino was elected member of the Senate having won the Senatorial election that was held on April 28, 2015. He was also a former member of the House of Representatives.
He once said in two separate interviews that he is an ambitious man and would one day love to be the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Dino is an outspoken Nigerian. He supported the nomination of Senator Bukola Saraki for the office of President of the Senate against the wish of his party.
Dino Melaye Controversies
There are various controversies surrounding Melaye’s life-style. He is always seen as a campaigner for anti-corruption, but his records speak otherwise.
He denied operating a checking and savings account with a US bank, which was a violation of Nigeria’s law despite evidence provided including transaction dates, bank statements, card numbers, and location of the transactions.
He was also involved in a controversy with a fellow senator, Mrs Remi Tinubu where he claimed that she called him a “dog”
He is said to be in loggerheads with Yahaya Bello, the governor of his state. After unsuccessful attempt to recall Dino Melaye, he is on the verge of moving back to the PDP.
Dino’s Personal Life
According to Wikipedia, he is currently unmarried but was married to Tokunbo Melaye for 10 years. She filed for divorce after a domestic violence dispute where she claimed that he beat her up and pointed a gun to her head.
Shortly after, Dino Melaye moved another woman named Alero Falope into the home that he shared with Tokunbo. Falope moved out 6 months later. Tokunbo had 3 children for Dino
Dino is a wealthy senator who owns many assets and properties. His estimated financial net worth is N500 million.
