Fiorentina Captain Davide Astori Tragically Passes Away, Aged 31

He was found dead in his hotel room where he was with Fiorentina ahead of the Serie A game against Udinese.

Davide Astori is said to have passed away tonight, in his sleep. Fiorentina will not play. I remember seeing him with his wife and baby in the streets of Florence last year. Thoughts go to them and may Davide rest in peace. I'm absolutely shocked. Gobsmacked.

Horrific news.

The Italian club released the following statement: “Fiorentina are profoundly shaken and forced to announce that their captain Davide Astori has died

“For this terrible and delicate situation, and above all out of respect for his family, we appeal to the sensitivity of the media.”

Today’s league game versus Udinese has been cancelled.

The midfielder was a stalwart in Italy, playing for the likes of Cagliari, AS Roma and Fiorentina.

He’s also been capped 14 times by the Italian national team, scoring one goal.
