The Real Reason Khaman Maluach Got Sick During Duke’s Win Over NC State

Duke basketball fans held their breath Monday night when freshman center Khaman Maluach had to leave the court during the second half against NC State. The 7-footer was seen vomiting on the floor, prompting immediate attention from the team trainers.

Fortunately, the situation wasn’t as alarming as it first appeared. Head coach Jon Scheyer offered a reassuring update after the game.

“He was cramping,” Scheyer explained. “He chugged a lot of Gatorade quickly, and that’s what caused it.”

Always the motivator, Scheyer even saw the incident as a testament to Maluach’s dedication.

“He was doing whatever he could to get back in the game,” Scheyer said.

The first-year standout reportedly felt better after the game, but Scheyer emphasized the importance of giving Maluach some rest ahead of Saturday’s home showdown against the North Carolina Tar Heels. The Blue Devils have been navigating a demanding schedule, playing twice in three days for the second time this season and the first time in conference play.

Maluach, despite the mid-game setback, contributed solidly to Duke’s 74-64 victory over the Wolfpack, recording four points, eight rebounds, and two blocks. His resilience and determination on and off the court are already making him a player to watch this season.
